Softball Drops Doubleheader to #2 Texas Lutheran

SEGUIN, Texas - Centenary Softball (17-19, 8-10 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) fell in a doubleheader to #2 Texas Lutheran (33-1, 8-0 SCAC), 9-3 in game one and 2-0 in game two Friday night, April 20.

In the first inning of game one, senior Anna Dunn smashed her 13th home run of the season. Dunn's 13 round trippers this season ties her for second on the all-time single season list in SCAC history. It was also the first home run by a conference player off of Texas Lutheran's Maitlin Raycroft in her two seasons with the Bulldogs.

Dunn doubled to lead off the fourth inning and later scored, while junior Sydney Hurley added a solo shot in the seventh.

Freshman Taylor Abshire (4-7) took the loss in the circle for the Ladies, allowing 13 hits and nine runs (five earned) in five innings of work.

Texas Lutheran scored four in the first of game one to take the lead for good. Kyla Lockley led off the game with a bunt single and stole second. An error on a sacrifice bunt attempt put runners on the corners with no outs. After a stolen base by the trail runner, an error scored the first Texas Lutheran run. After Haley Padilla walked, she was caught stealing. However, the throw allowed another Bulldogs run to score. With the bases empty, another Centenary error led to an RBI double by Skyler Oullette. Oullette later scored on Kassie Maddox's RBI single.

Texas Lutheran added two in the third and one each in the fourth, fifth, and sixth for the final score.

Raycroft (16-0) allowed three hits and two earned runs while striking out nine. Maddox went 2-for-3 from the plate with a pair of RBIs for the Texas Lutheran offense.

In game two, Texas Lutheran scored a pair of unearned runs for the win. Dunn, Hurley, and freshman Erin Lewis all had hits for the Ladies. Junior Nichole Aldridge (7-9) took the complete game loss, allowing two unearned runs and seven hits in six inning of work.

Maddox (4-1) allowed only three hits and a walk while striking out seven in seven innings of work.
