GEORGETOWN, Texas - When things looked the bleakest for Ladies Softball at the 2018 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament, an improbable comeback kept the season alive.

Down 3-0 in the bottom of the seventh, the Ladies capped the miraculous comeback with a walk off grand slam from junior Wendy Gillet as fourth-seeded Centenary (19-21) stunned and eliminated sixth-seeded Dallas (8-32) 6-3 Saturday morning, April 28.

Down 3-0 in the bottom of the seventh with two outs and a runner at first, senior Anna Dunn singled to shortstop to bring the tying run to the plate. Junior Sydney Hurley fought off an 0-2 pitch to shallow center for a hit and to put the Ladies on the board. Junior Margeaux Smith walked on five pitches to load the bases before junior Cassie Gonzales shot the first pitch she saw through the left side to score another run. With the bases loaded, Gillet took a strike and then smashed the second pitch over the wall just left of center for the grand slam.

Dunn and Gonzales led Centenary from the plate, going 3-for-4. Then grand slam was Gillet's only hit on the afternoon in four at-bats. Junior Nichole Aldridge (9-9) picked up the complete-game win, allowing eight hits and three runs in seven innings pitched.

Dallas scored one in the second and two runs in the sixth to jump out to the three-run lead. In the second, Liz Cordova led off the inning with an infield single and scored on Katelyn Lazarek's one-out double. In the sixth, Caitlyn Stevenson led off the inning with a triple and scored on Gabbie Underwood's single. Underwood moved up to second on the throw home and scored on Mel Savala's two-out hit.

Maggie Watts (5-14) took the loss for the Crusaders, allowing 11 hits and six runs in 6.2 innings pitched.

Centenary returns to action tonight at 5:30 p.m. against the winner of second-seeded Schreiner.
