Kyra Montes To Play In Women’s Olympic Qualifying Matches For Nicaragua

Alajuela, Costa Rica - Centenary senior women's soccer star forward Kyra Montes has been asked to represent the country of Nicaragua in its next two matches as part of the Central American Qualifying Stage of the 2020 Concacaf Women's Olympic Qualifying Championship.

Montes, a Shreveport native, will play for the squad in matches against host country Costa Rica and El Salvador on Friday, Oct. 4 and Sunday, Oct. 6. The Group A matches will be played at the Estadio Alejandro Morera Soto

"I'm excited for this experience to play on the international level," said Montes. "I hope this opportunity opens other doors and that it allows me to keep playing the sport I love."

Montes has played in just four games this season for the Ladies but has scored five goals and had three assists. She was a first team all-conference selection a year ago after leading the SCAC with 14 goals. Montes owns 22 goals in her career to go along with 10 assists and has 11 game-winning goals. She holds the program records for goals in a single season (14 last season), career goals (22) and career points (54).

The Ladies (8-0) are off to their best start in program history and are receiving votes in the latest United Soccer Coaches Top 25 NCAA Division III Poll for the West Region. Centenary currently sits atop the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference standings as conference play is set to begin this weekend.

The Maroon and White edged the University of Dallas, 2-1 on Sunday to improve to 4-0 at home this season and have outscored their last five opponents 14-4. The Ladies are the only undefeated team remaining in the conference and have a 23-8 advantage in goals scored this season against its competition and have allowed one goal or less in six of their eight matches.

The Ladies will face the Johnson and Wales Wildcats (2-7) on Friday at 5 p.m. at Mayo Field in its SCAC opener. The two teams met back on Sept. 15 in Colorado with the Ladies winning 4-1. Live stats and live video will be available for the match. #GoCentenary #CTheOpportunity
