Women's Soccer Opens SCAC Play With Overtime Win

Shreveport - The Centenary women's soccer team remained undefeated with a thrilling 1-0 overtime win over the Johnson and Wales Wildcats on Friday evening at Mayo Field in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference opener for both teams.

The Ladies (9-0, 1-0 SCAC) continued the best start in program history and remained atop the SCAC standings. Johnson and Wales dropped to 2-8 and 0-1 with the loss. Freshman midfielder Celeste Muinz (Denton, Texas) scored the game winner and notched her first-career goal in the 104 minute of the match. The two teams battled to a scoreless tie after 90 minutes of action. 

Centenary took 20 shots to just seven for the Wildcats and held a 5-2 adavnatge in corner kicks. Ladies' freshman goalkeeper Karlie Delhommer (St. Amant, La.) pitched a shutout and made five saves. J&W keeper Katelyn Peters recorded seven saves. The Ladies improved to 5-0 at home this season while recording their third shutout. 

The Maroon and White will now have a week off before hitting the road for a pair of matches next weekend. The Ladies face Schreiner at 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 11 in Kerrville, Texas and then square off with Trinity next Sunday, Oct. 13 at noon. #CTheOpportunity #GoCentenary
