Gymnastics Defeats Cortland At Home

Shreveport – The Centenary gymnastics team picked up its first win of the season as the Ladies defeated the Cortland Red Dragons by a score of 189.825 to 187.825 on Saturday in a dual meet at the Gold Dome.

Senior Cami Bea Austin (Memphis, Tenn.) won the vault competition with a score of 9.775 and sophomore Kendall Sanders (Spring Branch, Texas) won the All-Around with a total score of 38.200. Austin won the vault for the second week in a row after earning a 9.70 in Centenary's loss last Saturday at home against Texas Woman's University. Sanders, who finished third in the All-Around last Saturday, placed third on the uneven parallel bars (9.575) and fourth in the beam (9.675), which was a career-best score in the event for her. 

Junior Jenny Jackson (Monticello, Fla.) placed third on the vault with a score of 9.525. Freshman Leilani Johnson (Wichita, Kan.) and teammate Kendall Huff (Riviera, Texas) tied for fourth with a score of 9.475. Austin finished third in the floor exercise with a score of 9.700. Junior Jerrica Harris (Memphis, Tenn.) and sophomore Kendall Knaps (Prairieville, La) tied for fourth with a 9.600 score.

Cortland's Kamryn Rodriguez and Emma Schulz placed first and second in the beam but a trio of Ladies (Knaps, Sanders, and senior Dorothy Mims (Huntsville, Ala.) finished third through fifth with scores of 9.700, 9.675, and 9.575 respectively. Sophomore Xian Baumgartner (Albuquerque, N.M.) placed second in the bars with a score of 9.650.

Schulz also won the floor exercise with a score of 9.775 and finished second in the vault (9.600) and beam (9.750). Rodriguez finished second in the floor exercise with a 9.725.

Centenary will host Texas Woman's for a second time this season on Friday, Feb. 7 for the Sylvia Keiter Memorial Meet at 6 p.m. The Ladies then cap the weekend with a dual meet versus Winona State on Sunday, Feb. 9 at 2 p.m. Centenary then hits the road for three meets away from home in mid to late February.

Centenary's final home meet of the season will be held on Sunday, March 1 against Southeast Missouri State at 2 p.m.
