Hey Ladies Fans, it's Junior Jenny with this week's gym talk.
Let me tell you, I am so so proud of the Ladies this week. We have really shown our grit and determination this week during practice while getting ready for our second home meet of the year. The Ladies have really stepped it up by being intentional with every turn and having no doubt in ourselves or our teammates.
After a great week of practices in the Gold Dome, we were ready to welcome SUNY Cortland from Cortland, New York in the Dome. This meet was our Alumni meet so it was so fun to see former Centenary gymnasts and have them cheering us on from the stands!
This week we really focused on having each other's backs and trusting our gymnastics!
Our practices led us to some major improvements in the meet this week. We had some very solid vaults! Senior Cami Bea Austin did a huge Yurchenko half receiving a 9.775 to win vault! Big Kudos to junior Jerrica Harris for throwing her handspring front for the 1st time in competition as an exhibition! I am so proud of you and can't wait to see you in the lineup soon! *wink wink*
Bars is steadily improving for us! My girl Sierra Ponder is back in action on the bars! Ladies fans, I am telling you, you do not want to miss seeing this natural bar swinger do her thing. She is absolutely beautiful on the bars! Shout out to Sophomore Xian Baumgartner for her beautiful set on bars this meet. I am so proud of you for trusting yourself and having your teammates backs!
Our beam lineup is starting to get in their rhythm! Kendall Knaps killed her beam routine this weekend! I love seeing my friend do beam like I know she can! Senior Dorothy Mims is also back in action on the beam! I definitely had tears in my eyes after watching her graceful and beautiful routine! I am so proud of you Dot!
The Ladies had fun on the floor! We had some huge tumbling and great energy on the floor this weekend. I cannot wait to see how floor improves for us throughout the season. We have some great routines that are only going to get stronger as season goes on.
Congrats to Kendall Sanders (Baby) on getting 1st in the All-Around with a 38.2! I see the fire inside you Ken and I am so proud of all the hard work you put into this sport and team! Your Ladies came out of this week with a 189.825 and a WIN! We loved interacting and dancing with the Cortland Gymnasts before and after the meet, some of us even got to see them at their post-meet meal. We hope we get to see them again and wish them luck on the rest of their season!
Every home meet we give out a "Beast Award" to a gymnast from each team in honor of former Centenary Gymnast, Sylvia Keiter. This is a way we continue to keep Syl's legacy alive. She was the kind of teammate that had everyone's back. She was an encourager, motivator, hard worker, passionate, and had the run through a brick wall mentality. The award is presented to a gymnast from each team who exemplifies these traits. The two gymnasts to receive the award for this meet were Ashley Scarantino from Cortland and Jenny Jackson from Centenary. Oh yeah that's me! I am so honored to be given this award. I only met Sylvia twice and I could see the type of person and gymnast she was. I strive every day to keep her legacy alive and to be the type of teammate she was. She inspires me to be the best me I can be for the team.
I am so proud of all the Ladies this week! As we come off this winning high, we have a week off of competing and will be in the gym focusing on details and upgrades to keep moving forward and improving! If I were you, I would keep an eye on your Centenary Ladies and what is to come!
We have a double meet week-end coming up at home on Friday, February 7th, at 6 pm vs TWU. And Sunday, February 9th at 2pm vs. Winona State!
