Gymnastics Records Season-High Score Friday Versus TWU

Shreveport – The Centenary gymnastics team fell by a score of 195.325-191.650 in an exciting and bittersweet dual meet at the Gold Dome on Friday evening. Friday's meet was a special night for the gymnastics program as it served as the annual Sylvia Keiter Memorial Meet.

The 191.650 was the Ladies' fifth-highest score since 2013 when they finished third at Nationals and was a season-high score.

The Ladies, coming off of a home victory over Cortland on Jan. 25 by a score of 189.825 to 187.825, faced TWU for the second time this season as the teams previously met on Jan. 18 in Centenary's home opener.

Centenary's overall performance on Friday was highlighted by nine career-high individual scores being set or tied. Sophomore Kendall Sanders (Spring Branch, Texas) had a big night as she set career highs in the floor (9.65), all-around (38.525), and vault (9.60). Sanders placed second in the all-around behind TWU's Bria Northrop.

Freshman Leilani Johnson (Wichita, Kan.) recorded career personal best scores in both the floor (9.70) and vault (9.60) while senior Cami Bea Austin (Memphis, Tenn.) placed third on the vault with a career-high score of 9.80.

Freshman Kendall Huff (Riviera, Texas) set a career high on the vault with a score of 9.625, senior Dorothy Mims scored a career-high 9.80 on the beam to place second, and junior Jenny Jackson (Monticello, Fla.) and sophomore Kendall Knaps (Prairieville, La.) recorded career highs on the beam with scores of 9.675 and 9.65 respectively.

Austin and Jackson finished fourth and fifth in the all-around competition and sophomore Xian Baumgartner (Albuquerque, N.M.) placed sixth.

The Ladies cap the weekend with a dual meet versus Winona State on Sunday, Feb. 9 at 2 p.m. Centenary then hits the road for three meets away from home in mid to late February.

Centenary's final home meet of the season will be held on Sunday, March 1 against Southeast Missouri State at 2 p.m.
