Gymnastics To Face TWU At Home On Friday

Shreveport – The Centenary gymnastics team welcomes the Texas Woman's University Pioneers to town on Friday for a dual meet with first rotation set for 6 p.m. at the Gold Dome.

Friday's meet is also a special night for the gymnastics program as it will serve as the annual Sylvia Keiter Memorial Meet. The Ladies, coming off of a home victory over Cortland on Jan. 25 by a score of 189.825 to 187.825, are facing TWU for the second time this season as the teams previously met on Jan. 18 in Centenary's home opener.

Centenary had several outstanding individual performances in their most recent meet against Cortland. Senior Cami Bea Austin (Memphis, Tenn.) won the vault competition with a score of 9.775 and sophomore Kendall Sanders (Spring Branch, Texas) won the All-Around with a total score of 38.200. Austin won the vault for the second week in a row after earning a 9.70 in the previous meeting with TWU. Sanders, who finished third in the All-Around in that meet against TWU, placed third on the uneven parallel bars (9.575) and fourth in the beam (9.675), which was a career-best score in the event for her. 

Junior Jenny Jackson (Monticello, Fla.) placed third on the vault with a score of 9.525. Freshman Leilani Johnson (Wichita, Kan.) and teammate Kendall Huff (Riviera, Texas) tied for fourth with a score of 9.475. Austin finished third in the floor exercise with a score of 9.700. Junior Jerrica Harris (Memphis, Tenn.) and sophomore Kendall Knaps (Prairieville, La) tied for fourth with a 9.600 score.

A trio of Ladies (Knaps, Sanders, and senior Dorothy Mims (Huntsville, Ala.) finished third through fifth with scores of 9.700, 9.675, and 9.575 respectively. Sophomore Xian Baumgartner (Albuquerque, N.M.) placed second in the bars with a score of 9.650.

The Ladies then cap the weekend with a dual meet versus Winona State on Sunday, Feb. 9 at 2 p.m. Centenary then hits the road for three meets away from home in mid to late February.

Centenary's final home meet of the season will be held on Sunday, March 1 against Southeast Missouri State at 2 p.m.
