Cami Bea Austin Named To 2020 MIC All-Conference Team

Normal, Ill. – The Midwest Independent Conference announced its 2020 All-Conference Team on Monday and Centenary senior Cami Bea Austin (Memphis, Tenn.) was recognized for her outstanding season for the Ladies.

Austin earned second team honors on both the floor and vault. These honors come a week after Austin was named MIC Senior of the Year along with Ryan Henry of Lindenwood and Gabrielle Cooke of Illinois State as each tied for the award which recognized the most outstanding gymnast in their final season of competition.

"Cami Bea has been such a rock for this team for the last four years," said Centenary head coach Jackie Fain.

"She has not missed one meet her entire career, which in and of itself is a great accomplishment, but to be named to an All-Conference team on two events is huge."

Centenary finished the season ranked 66th in the nation in the Road to Nationals rankings, the highest ranked division III team in the nation. Since collegiate gymnastics is a non-divisional sport, the Ladies compete annually against division I, II, and III and their ranking means they are the 66th ranked team in the country covering all three divisions.

"We are the only Division III team in our conference, so this means Cami has finished in the top six for the year, on each of these events, going against DI and DII scholarship athletes," said Fain.

"Because of the abrupt end to our season due to COVID-19, we were unable to have our conference championships, so our awards are based on the athlete's National Qualifying Score (NQS) this year.  In simple terms, this is an average of six scores throughout the year. Receiving these accolades proves Cami Bea can compete with these athletes week in and week out. She has been the backbone of this team and we are very proud of her for all she has done to lead Centenary as the number one ranked DIII team in the nation for the past two years."

The league will continue recognize the outstanding accomplishments of its student-athletes this week, as the MIC Scholar-Athlete Team will be announced on Tuesday, March 24 2 p.m., and a recognition of the league's senior standouts on Wednesday the 25th at 2 p.m.
