Centenary Ladies Gym Talk: March 5 Edition

Centenary Ladies Gym Talk: March 5 Edition

Hey Ladies' fans, it's freshman Kendall Huff back with you for this week's gym talk!

The Ladies have had a whole week of practice and no school, due to Mardi Gras break. The break let our bodies (and our brains!) recuperate from the super busy weeks before. Some of us even got to have some fun and go to part of a Mardi Gras parade! For a few of us, it was our first time to experience one!

We started the week off light with a lot of fun team assignments. The team assignments helped us to push each other to do our best! With a week full of great practices, we were ready and confident to go into our last home meet of the season and senior night, honoring Dorothy Mims and Cami Bea Austin.

On Saturday, we had a wonderful crawfish boil at Coach Jackie's with the team and our families to celebrate our seniors. Most of us had to learn how to crack open the crawfish from our Louisiana natives, Kendall Knaps and Lacey Wedge, who could eat 10 in the amount of time I could eat 1! Thank you, Coach Jackie and Mr. Dan, for having all of us over for a wonderful evening! And thank you to all the parents who put the dinner together for us!

Sunday was competition day! The Gold Dome was full of energy! Madison McCary sang the national anthem beautifully to get the meet started. We then started off with a great rotation on vault! Leilani Johnson competed her beautiful layout full, scoring a 9.6. Senior Cami Bea Austin was our anchor with a gorgeous, stuck layout half, tying her career high of a 9.8 and securing her win on vault! We then had another great rotation on bars! Jenny Jackson lead us off scoring her personal best of a 9.65. Kendall Huff (oh hey that's me!) also scored her personal best with a 9.5 and an upgraded routine. Senior Dorothy Mims made her college debut on bars hitting a beautiful routine!  We had a team total of 48.0 on bars, only the third time since 2013 to go 48 or higher on bars! To continue our high energy, the beam queens rocked beam! Cami Bea Austin scored her season best of a 9.70 and Kendall Sanders tied her personal best of a 9.725! We then went to floor, where we had two more bests - Jerrica Harris with a career high and Kendall Sanders with a season high 9.75! We ended the night with a total score of 191.875, the highest of the season! At the end of the meet the seniors, Cami Bea and Dot, along with their families, were presented. We sure are going to miss our seniors next year! But for now we still have the rest of the season to enjoy with them!

Your Ladies are traveling to Denton, Texas this week to compete at TWU in a quad meet against LSU and Arkansas on Friday, March 6th at 7 pm. Tune in next week to see how your Ladies do!

Love,

Kendall Huff
