Gymnastics Posts Season-High 191.875 Score ON Senior Day

Shreveport-  The Centenary gymnastics team posted its best score of the season, an impressive 191.875, on Sunday in its annual "Senior Day" meet versus the Southeast Missouri State University Redhawks at the Gold Dome.

The Redhawks won the dual meet with a score of 194.175. SEMO, a division 1 school and a fellow Midwest Independent Conference member of Centenary's, entered Sunday's meet ranked 60th in the Road to Nationals rankings while the Ladies entered their final home meet of the season as the highest ranked team in division III in the country in the latest Road to Nationals rankings, at No. 65. The Ladies were coming off of a third-place finish last weekend in Raleigh, North Carolina in a tri-meet hosted by NC State in which they posted a 189.250 score.

Two seniors, Cami Bea Austin (Memphis, Tenn.) and Dorothy Mims (Huntsville, Ala.) were honored on Sunday at the end of the meet. Austin won the vault with a 9.80 score as she has scored no less than a 9.80 in her last five meets this season, including a season-best mark of 9.825 twice last month. She also placed second on the floor with a superb routine, scoring a 9.80. Austin capped off her Senior Day performance with a fifth-place finish on the beam with a score of season personal best score of 9.70.

Sophomore Kendall Sanders (Spring Branch, Texas) placed third in the all-around competition with a total score of 38.025. She finished third on the beam with a season personal-best tying score of 9.725 and placed fifth on the bars with a score of 9.650. Junior Jenny Jackson (Monticello, Fla.) tied Sanders for fifth on bars with a 9.650, a personal best record for the Florida native in the event. Junior Jerrica Harris (Memphis, Tenn.) just missed a top-five finish on floor as she posted a personal-best score of 9.675 to tie for sixth.

The Ladies earned a 48.125 total score on beam, their best for the day, followed by an even 48.000 on bars. SEMO's Dahlia Solorzano-Caruso placed first on both the bars (9.850) and in the all-around competition (39.100) while Anna Kaziska won the floor (9.875) and balance beam (9.775) event titles. Kaziska was second in the all-around with a total of 38.550.

Centenary will hit the road again following Sunday's meet as the Ladies will head to Denton, Texas for the TWU Quad Meet hosted by Texas Woman's University on Friday, March 6 at 7 p.m. along with Arkansas and LSU.
