Gymnastics Finishes Third In Lindenwood University Quad Meet

St. Charles, Mo. – The Centenary gymnastics team placed third at the Lindenwood University Quad Meet on Sunday at Hyland Arena.

The Ladies, who also placed third in the GymQuarters Mardi Gras Invitational tri meet on Friday, posted a team score of 188.925 on Sunday. Centenary, currently the highest ranked team in division III in the country in the latest Road to Nationals rankings, finished ahead of Gustavus Adolphus (184.800) and just behind second-place Seattle Pacific (191.425). Host Lindenwood won the meet with a score of 194.475.

The Maroon and White, who are ranked 67th overall among all teams nationwide covering division I, II, and III, were joined by host school and division 1 member Southeast Missouri State and Seattle Pacific in the tri-meet Friday, also held in St. Charles. Centenary finished with a score of 189.525 on Friday while Southeast Missouri, a fellow Midwest Independent Conference partner of Centenary's, won the meet with a score of 193.525 and Seattle Pacific placed second with a score of 192.675. The Ladies were coming off of a home victory over Winona State on Feb. 9 by a score of 191.050-186.900.

Senior Cami Bea Austin (Memphis, Tenn.) placed third in the floor on Sunday with a score of 9.80. Austin also tied for fifth on the vault with a 9.70. She won the vault on Friday with a career-high score of 9.80 after winning the competition on Feb. 9 at home against Winona State with a score of 9.725. Sophomore Kendall Sanders (Spring Branch, Texas) finished fifth in the All-Around with a score of 38.225 as she placed fifth in the beam with her highest score of the afternoon, a 9.725. Sanders placed third in the All-Around on Friday with a score of 37.825 as she he earned a 9.575 in both the beam and floor, her two highest scores of the meet.

Junior Sierra Ponder (Stone Mountain, Ga.) and sophomore Xian Baumgartner (Albuquerque, N.M.) each placed in the top 10 on the bars, finishing eighth and ninth respectively with scores of 9.625 and 9.60. Ponder finished third in the bars with the same score of 9.625 on Friday. Senior Dorothy Mims (Huntsville, Ala.) finished seventh on the beam Sunday with a score of 9.675 after tying for second in the event on Friday with a score of 9.80. Freshman Kendall Huff (Riviera, Texas) claimed a pair of top-10 finishes on Sunday, finishing ninth on the vault (9.575) and 10th on the floor (9.60).

The Ladies will head to Raleigh, N.C. next weekend to face host North Carolina State and William and Mary in a tri-meet at Reynolds Coliseum.

Centenary's final home meet of the season will be held on Sunday, March 1 against Southeast Missouri at 2 p.m.
