Women's Basketball Falls To Austin College To Open SCAC Play

Sherman, Texas – The Centenary women's basketball team dropped its Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference opener on Friday to the Austin College 'Roos by a score of 75-34 at the Hughey Gymnasium.

The Ladies (0-8, 0-1 SCAC) fell behind the 'Roos (7-0, 1-0 SCAC) 33-15 at halftime and could not overcome the deficit. Junior forward Bre Frierson (Shreveport) led the Ladies with 10 points and added six rebounds in just 17 minutes played. Freshman guard Destini Powell (Minden, La.) added eight points and six rebounds in 25 minutes of action. Frierson reached double figures for the fourth time this season

Freshman forward Jazzmyn Jones (Normangee, Texas) and junior guard Jennae Mayberry (Clovis, Calif.) combined for 13 points and nine rebounds. Austin College had two players in double figures and received 45 bench points with three players collecting at least eight points apiece.

Centenary's road trip continues with another SCAC contest on Saturday at 4 p.m. against the University of Dallas before returning home to face Colorado College (Dec. 29) and Johnson and Wales (Dec. 30) at home in SCAC play.
