Women's Basketball Welcomes Austin College On Friday For SCAC Contest

Shreveport – The Centenary women's basketball team will face the Austin College 'Roos on Friday at 7:30 p.m. in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contest at the Gold Dome.

The Ladies (1-22, 1-15 SCAC) previously faced Austin College back on Dec. 20 in Sherman, Texas, falling 75-34. The 'Roos enter Friday's game at 20-3 overall and 13-3 in conference play. They are winners of two in a row after a home sweep of Southwestern and Texas Lutheran in SCAC play last weekend. Austin College is currently second in the conference standings tied with St. Thomas, just behind leader Trinity (16-1).

Twelve of Centenary's losses this season have been by 14 points or less, with eight by 11 points or less and six by single digits displaying how hard the Ladies have played and how competitive they are. Centenary lost, 97-36, at home last Friday to St. Thomas in its most recent game.

The Ladies were led in scoring on Friday by Junior forward Bre Frierson (Shreveport) with 11 points in 24 minutes. She made five of her 11 shot attempts from the floor and had six rebounds. Frierson leads the team in points per game, averaging 12.2, and is second on the team in rebounding, averaging 6.7 per game. She ranks ninth in the SCAC in both scoring and rebounding. Frierson ranks fifth in the SCAC in field goal percentage (.493) and third in offensive rebounds 3.0 per game).

Senior Deuyna Small (Shreveport) had a solid game with 14 points, six rebounds, and five assists in 33 minutes against Texas Lutheran on Feb. 8. Small is tied for fifth in the conference in rebounding as she averages 7.6 rebounds per game. She is also tied for ninth in the SCAC in assists with 59, averaging 2.6 per game. Small is also seventh in blocked shots (17) and second in the conference in defensive rebounds (132), averaging 5.7 per game.

Freshman guard Destini Powell (Minden, La.) scored a season-high and game-high 26 points in 28 minutes against TLU and reached double figures for the seventh time this season. She made 7 of 13 shots from the floor and connected on six of nine three-point attempts and made six of her seven free throws. Powell ranks ninth in the SCAC in three-point field goals made (41).

The Ladies, one of the top rebounding teams in the SCAC, rank fifth in the league in both rebounding offense and defense.

Small and fellow senior Essa Badon (Prairieville, La.) will be honored in a special pregame Senior Day ceremony on Saturday as the Ladies face the University of Dallas at 6 p.m.
