Volleyball Claims Five-Set Thriller over Schreiner

Shreveport, La. - The Centenary volleyball team defeated the Schreiner Mountaineers in a five-set thriller on Saturday afternoon in the Gold Dome on day two of the SCAC Group A Divisional Tournament. 

The Ladies took sets one and three by counts of 25-18 and 25-21 and clinched the match in set five by a score of 15-11. Schreiner claimed sets two and four (25-20 and 25-22). Centenary imporved to 4-10 overall on the season and 2-2 in SCAC play. Schreiner fell to 3-10 and 0-4. The match featured 25 ties and 13 lead changes. The Ladies next face University of Dallas at approximately 5:10 p.m. in the Gold Dome in the finale of the weekend tournament. 

Centenary junior Ami Powers (Katy, Texas) had 11 kills and 12 digs in the match and senior Kristian Loving (Tyler, Texas) and teammate Rachel Demerjian (Glendora, Calif.) added 14 and 13 digs respectively. Sophomore Alyssa Davis (Van Alstyne, Texas) added 20 digs and  senior Marissa Sandoval (San Antonion, Texas) led the way with 29 digs. Sophomore Lauren Kelley (Fort Worth, Texas) posted 16 kills and fellow sophomore Elizabeth Epley (Nashville, Tenn.) had 11. Four Schreiner players had at least 13 digs and Freshman Kayla Lofland led the way with 10 kills. 

The Ladies responded well after dropping a pair of matches on Friday on the opening day of the event held at the campus Fitness Center and the Gold Dome and evened their conference mark to 2-2. 

The Ladies remain at home to face ETBU on Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. and then will head to Houston on Sept. 28 to face St. Thomas in a conference match.
