Volleyball to Face ETBU at Home Tuesday

Shreveport, La. - The Centenary volleyball team will welcome the East Texas Baptist University Tigers to town for a non-conference match set for 7 p.m. in the Gold Dome.

The Ladies (5-10 overall) are fresh off a pair of wins in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Group A Divisional hosted by the Ladies this past weekend. The Maroon and White swept two matches over Schreiner and Dallas on Saturday and have won four of their last seven matches and are now 3-2 at home on the season and 3-2 in SCAC play, good for a fourth-place tie in the conference standings with Austin College. ETBU enters Tuesay's match 8-5 overall after the Tigers defeated Louisiana College on the road Saturday.

Centenary defeated Schreiner in its first match on Saturday in a five-set thriller, as the Ladies took sets one and three by counts of 25-18 and 25-21 and clinched the match in set five by a score of 15-11. The match featured 25 ties and 13 lead changes. Centenary junior Ami Powers (Katy, Texas) had 11 kills and 12 digs in the match and senior Kristian Loving (Tyler, Texas) and teammate Rachel Demerjian (Glendora, Calif.) added 14 and 13 digs respectively. Sophomore Alyssa Davis (Van Alstyne, Texas) added 20 digs and  senior Marissa Sandoval (San Antonion, Texas) led the way with 29 digs. Sophomore Lauren Kelley (Fort Worth, Texas) posted 16 kills and fellow sophomore Elizabeth Epley (Nashville, Tenn.) had 11.

Demerjian currently ranks second in the SCAC in assist per game averaging 7.5 per match while teammate Marissa Sandoval ranks third in the league averaging 4.2 digs per game. Sandoval is the school's all-time leader in digs in a career. Demerjian, a native of Glendora, Calif., was named to the SCAC All-Conference squad last season, only the second Centenary volleyball player to do so in the division III era. In 2018 she accumulated 924 assists which ranks fifth in school history in assists for the season. Demerjian also led the team with 18 double-doubles, including three straight to end the regular season.

The Ladies are back on the road Saturday for a conference match against St. Thomas in Houston and then return home for a pair of non-conference matches, facing Jarvis Christian on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 6 p.m. and Grambling on Thursday, Oct. 3 also at 6 p.m.
