Volleyball To Play In SCAC Divisional This Weekend In Texas

Irving, Texas – The Centenary volleyball team will take part in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Group A Divisional #2 tournament this weekend in Irving, Texas.

The event, hosted by the University of Dallas, will be played Friday, Oct. 18 and Saturday, Oct. 19 at the Maher Center. The Ladies (9-16, 5-5 SCAC) will face Southwestern at 11 a.m. on Friday and Colorado College at 5 p.m. Friday and then square off with Schreiner on Saturday at Noon and finish up against Dallas at 6 p.m. Saturday.

The Ladies are currently tied for fifth in the conference standings with Texas Lutheran. The Maroon and White went 2-2 in the previous Group A Divisional last month at home, defeating Schreiner and Dallas on the final day of action.

Centenary leads the SCAC in team digs with 1,720 through 25 matches and that number also leads the nation in the category. Senior Marissa Sandoval (San Antonio, Texas) ranks second in the conference in digs with 464 and is the program's all-time leader in the category. She also has 33 service aces this season to rank 8th in the SCAC. Sophomore Rachel Demerjian (Glendora, Calif.) leads the SCAC in assists with 659 and Alyssa Davis (Van Alstyne, Texas) is 10th in the conference with 125 kills this season.

The Ladies are 3-3 in their last six matches after going 2-2 last weekend at the SCAC Cross-Divisional Tournament hosted by Schreiner University in Kerrville. The Maroon and White fell 3-0 to host UT-Dallas and swept Belhaven, 3-0, on Friday. Centenary will face Grambling on the road on Tuesday, Oct. 22 following this weekend's matches.
