Volleyball Drops Match to Grambling In Five Sets

Shreveport – The Centenary volleyball team dropped a non-conference nailbiter to the Grambling Lady Tigers in five sets on Thursday evening inside the Gold Dome. 

The Ladies fell to 6-13 overall while Grambling improved to 7-11. The Ladies started the match out hot, taking the first two sets (25-18, 25-22) but then Grambling responded with a 25-21 victory in set three and won the fourth set, 25-18. After a 10-10 tie, the Lady Tigers went on a run to end the set and win, 15-10. The match was tied 27 times and the lead changed 10 times. 

Senior Marissa Sandoval (San Antonio, Texas) and junior Ami Powers (Katy, Texas) combined for 45 digs in the match. Sophomore Rachel Demerjian (Glendora, Calif.) recorded 21 assists and junior Brittany Risner (Montgomery, Texas) added 14. GRambling was led in assists by Sheila Borders with 23 and received 14 from Ramon Lain. Four Lady Tigers posted double-digit digs led by Kabria Dame's 25. 

The Ladies travel to Kerrville, Texas this weekend for the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Cross Divisional #1 with two matches per day Saturday, Oct. 5 and Sunday, Oct. 6. Centenary faces Trinity on Saturday at 11 a.m. and then Texas Lutheran at 3 p.m. On Sunday the Ladies square off with Johnson and Wales at 10 a.m. followed by a match against Austin College at 4 p.m. The Ladies are 3-3 so far in SCAC play.  #CTheOpportunity #GoCentenary
