Volleyball Drops Non-Conference Match At Grambling

Grambling, La. – The Centenary volleyball team lost a five-set match to the Grambling State Lady Tigers on Tuesday evening at the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center.

The Ladies (10-20) lost to the Lady Tigers for the second time this season in five sets after falling, 3-2, at home back on Oct. 3. Grambling improved to 7-17 with the win. Centenary took a 1-0 lead in the match by taking set one, 24-16 and then Grambling edged the Ladies, 24-23 in set two. The Ladies claimed set three, 25-21, and then Grambling won a close set four, 27-25. The Lady Tigers then clinched the match with a 15-13 score in set five.

The Maroon and White posted 105 digs and 51 kills in the match. The Ladies continue to lead the country in division III in team digs with 2,185 before Tuesday's match. Marissa Sandoval (San Antonio, Texas) led the way with 32 digs while Alyssa Davis (Van Alstyne, Texas) posted 19. Kristian Loving (Tyler, Texas) and Rachel Demerjian (Glendora, Calif.)  combined for 24.

Davis also contributed 15 kills and Kaye Kelly (Fort Worth, Texas) and Ami Powers (Katy, Texas) combined for 20. Grambling had five players in double figures in digs led by Kabria Dame's 29 and four Lady Tigers collected double figure kills as they posted 61 for the match.

Centenary returns to conference play this weekend as the Ladies take part in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Cross Divisional #2 in Sherman, Texas hosted by Austin College. Centenary will be joined by host Austin, Johnson and Wales, Texas Lutheran, and Trinity.

The Ladies will face Texas Lutheran on Saturday at 3 p.m. and Trinity at 7 p.m. Centenary will meet Johnson and Wales on Sunday at 2 p.m. and Austin College at 6 p.m.

Centenary will wrap up its regular season at home on Friday, Nov. 1 as the Ladies welcome Texas-Dallas to town on Senior Night for a 6 p.m. match. at the Gold Dome. #CTheOpportunity #GoCentenary
