Volleyball Splits Pair Of Matches In SCAC Cross-Divisional Tournament Saturday

Kerrville, Texas – The Centenary volleyball team split a pair of matches on day one of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Cross-Divisional Tournament hosted by Schreiner University at the SU Event Center.

The Ladies (7-14, 4-4 SCAC) lost 3-0 to Trinity in their opening match but came back with a five-set victory (3-2) over Texas Lutheran to close out Saturday's action. TLU won the first set by a score of 25-19 and then the Ladies evened the match with an identical score (25-19) in set two. The Bulldogs took set three, 25-19, and then the Ladies responded with a 25-22 win in set four and clinched that match with an 18-16 decision in set five. The Bulldogs dropped to 9-10, 204 SCAC with the loss.

Centenary collected 58 kills and 120 digs in the victory over TLU, led by Senior Marissa Sandoval (San Antonio, Texas) as she recorded 42 digs. Junior Ami Powers (Katy, Texas), sophomore Rachel Demerjian (Glendora, Calif.), Alyssa Davis (Van Alstyne, Texas), and Kristian Loving (Tyler, Texas) combined for 62 digs. Demerjian added 42 assists and Powers, Davis, and Elizabeth Epley (Nashville, Tenn.) all posted double-digit kills. 

In the match against Trinity, Powers, Davis, and Kaye Kelley (Fort Worth, Texas) combined for 15 kills and Epley added eight. Sandoval had 12 digs, Powers had nine, and Demerjian had seven digs and 16 assists. Trinity took the match by scores of 25-20, 25-15, and 25-20.
