Volleyball Team Falls to ETBU at Home, 3-0

Shreveport, La. - The Centenary volleyball team dropped a non-conference match to the East Texas Baptist University Tigers, 3-0, on Tuesday in the Gold Dome.

The Ladies (5-11) had their two-game winning streak snapped, losing 25-18, 25-23, 25-17 and falling to ETBU for the third time this season. The Tigers improved to 9-5 on the season. The Ladies are 4-4 in their last eight matches, having played the last five at home after being on the road the majority of the season.

Senior Marissa Sandoval (San Antonio, Texas) had a game high 15 digs for the Ladies Tuesday while teammate Lauren Kelley (Fort Worth, Texas) had six kills. Rachel Demerjian (Glendora, Calif.) finished the night with 11 assists.

ETBU's duo of Sydney Lopez and Cassidy Zellmer posted double-doubles in kills and digs on Tuesday in the win. Centenary took a 10-7 lead in set one before ETBU went ahead 14-11. The Ladies went on a 5-1 run to lead 16-15 but a 10-2 finish by the Tigers resulted in the 25-18 set one win.

The Ladies started red hot in set two, racing out to a 12-5 lead but then ETBU tied it at 12-12 and back and forth action saw the Tigers hold a slim 22-21 lead and then wound up winning the second set by just two points. ETBU withheld an early lead by the Ladies to win the final set, 25-17.

Centenary is back on the road Saturday for a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference match against St. Thomas in Houston. The Ladies defeated the Celts back on Sept. 14 in a five-set thriller at home. The Ladies then return home for a pair of non-conference matches, facing Jarvis Christian on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 6 p.m. and Grambling on Thursday, Oct. 3 also at 6 p.m. #CTheOpportunity
