Volleyball Returns Home to Face Jarvis Christian

Shreveport – The Centenary volleyball team returns home to face Jarvis Christian in a non-conference match set for Tuesday at 6 p.m. inside the Gold Dome.

The Ladies (5-12) lost at St. Thomas, 3-1, on Saturday in Houston in their last action in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play. The Maroon and White is 3-3 in SCAC play this season.

Centenary and Jarvis Christian will meet for the six-consecutive season with Centenary holding a 6-3 all-time mark against the Lady Bulldogs, including three-straight wins in the series.

Jarvis Christian, a member of the Red River Athletic Conference, is 5-12 this season and has lost six straight matches entering Tuesday's action.

The Celts took the first set, 26-24, and then the ladies evened the match with a 28-26 victory in set two. St. Thomas took set three, 25-19, and clinched the match with a 25-20 win in set four.

Senior Marissa Sandoval (San Antonio, Texas) led the Ladies with 33 digs while sophomore Alyssa Davis (Van Alstyne, Texas) contributed 27. Sophomore Rachel Demerjian (Glendora, Calif.) added 19 digs while Kristian Loving (Tyler Texas) had 17 and junior Ami Powers (Katy, Texas) had 12. Powers added 11 kills and Davis and sophomore Kaye Kelley (Fort Worth, Texas) added 12. The Ladies posted 59 kills to 55 for the Celts.

The Ladies currently sit in sixth place in the conference standings and have at least one player ranked in the top five in the three main individual statistical categories (kills, assists, and digs) this season. Ami Powers ranks fourth in the SCAC in kills with 168, Rachel Demerjian is second in assists (457), and Marissa Sandoval ranks third with 307 digs.

Centenary remains home on Thursday for another non-conference match against Grambling set for 6 p.m. Live stats and live video will be available for both matches this week.

The Ladies then travel to Kerrville, Texas this weekend for the SCAC Cross Divisional #1 with two matches per day Oct. 5-6. #CTheOpportunity
