Volleyball Goes 1-1 On Final Day Of SCAC Cross-Divisional Tournament

Kerrville, Texas – The Centenary volleyball team went 1-1 on the final day of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Cross-Divisional Tournament hosted by Schreiner University at the SU Event Center on Sunday.

The Ladies (8-15, 5-5 SCAC) went 2-2 during the weekend, sweeping Johnson and Wales, 3-0, and dropping a tough five-set match to Austin College Sunday. Centenary split a pair of matches on Saturday, dropping a match to Trinity in their opening match and defeating Texas Lutheran in five sets.

Centenary defeated Johnson and Wales by scores of 25-20, 25-22, and 25-13. The Ladies collected 70 digs and 42 kills. Sophomore Rachel Demerjian (Glendora, Calif.) had 36 assists and 11 digs. Senior Marissa Sandoval (San Antonio, Texas) and junior Ami Powers (Katy, Texas) each posted 16 digs and Alyssa Davis (Van Alstyne, Texas) and Demerjian combined for  21 digs.

The Ladies lost a heartbreaker to Austin College in five sets. Austin took set one, 25-23 and then the Ladies responded with a 31-29 victory in set two and then claimed set three, 25-16. The 'Roos evened the match with a 27-25 win in set four and then clinched the match in set five, 15-6.

Marissa Sandoval  led the way with 38 digs and Demerjian had 19. Kristian Loving (Tyler, Texas) and Davis combined for 28. Marichael Clarin-Jante (Houston, Texas) added 14 digs. Davis and freshman Liz Lowe (San Antonio, Texas) combined for 27 kills.

Centenary is back in action next weekend as the Ladies participate in the UT-Dallas Tri-Match in Richardon, Texas. The Ladies face Belhaven on Friday, Oct. 11 at 5 p.m. and then meet Texas-Dallas at 7 p.m. #CTheOpportunity #GoCentenary
