Volleyball To Face Grambling On Road Tuesday

Grambling, La. – The Centenary volleyball team will face the Grambling Lady Tigers in a non-conference match set for 6 p.m. on Tuesday at the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center.

The Ladies (10-19, 6-8 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) went 1-3 this past weekend in the SCAC Group A Divisional #2 tournament hosted by the University of Dallas in Irving. Centenary split a pair of matches on Saturday, defeating Schreiner, 3-2, and losing a tough match to Dallas, 3-2.

Sophomore Rachel Demerjian (Glendora, Calif.) broke the single-game school record for assists, a record which she held, with a whopping 66 in the victory over Schreiner. Demerjian originally set the record with 55 last season in a match against Johnson and Wales. She also added 14 digs in the match.The Ladies recorded 121 total digs in the match led by senior Marissa Sandoval's (San Antonio, Texas) 47. Junior Ami Powers (Katy, Texas) recorded 29 digs and sophomore Alyssa Davis (Van Alstyne, Texas) and senior Kristian Loving (Tyler, Texas) combined for 24 digs.

Grambling (6-17, 1-8 SWAC) lost at Arkansas-Pine Bluff in its most recent match on Thursday. The two teams met in the Gold Dome back on Oct. 3 with Grambling prevailing in a five-set match over the Ladies.

The Ladies started that match out hot, taking the first two sets (25-18, 25-22) but then Grambling responded with a 25-21 victory in set three and won the fourth set, 25-18. After a 10-10 tie, the Lady Tigers went on a run to end the set and win, 15-10. The match was tied 27 times and the lead changed 10 times. 

Senior Marissa Sandoval (San Antonio, Texas) and junior Ami Powers (Katy, Texas) combined for 45 digs in the match. Sophomore Rachel Demerjian (Glendora, Calif.) recorded 21 assists and junior Brittany Risner (Montgomery, Texas) added 14. Grambling was led in assists by Sheila Borders with 23 and received 14 from Ramon Lain. Four Lady Tigers posted double-digit digs led by Kabria Dame's 25. 

Live stats will be available for Tuesday's match. The Ladies return to conference play this weekend as they take part in the SCAC Cross Divisional #2 in Sherman, Texas. #GoCentenary #CTheOpportunity.
