ROCK HILL, S.C. - The Brevard College men's basketball team was picked to finish ninth during the 2014-2015 campaign in the South Atlantic Conference preseason poll, released today by the league office.
The Tornados look to be much improved coming off of back-to-back four-win campaigns under head coach Lee Burgess, who is entering his third season at the helm of the program. Brevard received 47 points in the poll, seven points behind eighth-place Coker and four ahead of Tusculum for the 10th spot.
Lincoln Memorial was picked to repeat as league champions after last season's 28-3 campaign that saw the Railsplitters sweep the conference regular season and tournament titles and advance to the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional semifinals. LMU finished sixth in last season's final National Association of Basketball Coaches rankings and has been ranked 25th in the Division II Bulletin preseason poll.
Picked second in the preseason poll is Newberry, which finished fifth in the conference standings a year ago and narrowly missed a bid to the NCAA Tournament. Queens, Wingate, and Anderson round out the top five.
Brevard will travel to UNC Asheville for an exhibition contest on Saturday, November 8 before the regular season begins on Friday, November 14 in a neutral-site contest with Clayton State in Augusta, Georgia.
