Gents fall short against McMurry

SHREVEPORT, La. - The Centenary men's basketball rally against McMurry fell short as the War Hawks escaped the Gold Dome with a 94-89 win on Thursday evening. The decision moved the Gents to 1-2 on the season while MU improved to 2-0.

The Maroon and White placed five players in double figures led by 13 from Kendall Demouchet. Jacob Broussard, Caden Cheramie and Isaiah Whitaker each added 12 points with Travion Kirkendoll providing 11 points. Cheramie led the squad with eight rebounds.

Centenary led by 10 points at the break, but witnessed its lead dissipate in the first seven minutes of the second stanza as a Jordan Holmes' 3-pointer placed the War Hawks up 58-57. The advantage was the first for the visitors since the 14:02 mark of the opening half.

MU gained its largest lead with 2:26 as Holmes' converted an old-fashioned, 3-point play to give the War Hawks an 85-74 lead. The Gents chipped away at the deficit and narrowed the lead to five points, but couldn't overcome the advantage.

Holmes finished with 26 points for MU which was second on the team. Connor Robinson posted a team-best 37 points along with 21 rebounds. Alex Lewis rounded out the double figure scorers for the War Hawks with 21 points.

Centenary shot 42.3 percent from the field while MU connected on over half its shots from the floor including 35.3 percent from behind the arc. Both squads recorded 62 percent from the charity stripe.

The Gents return to action on Saturday, Nov. 22 as they travel to East Texas Baptist. Tip is slated for 3 p.m.
