ABILENE, Texas - The Centenary men's basketball team will head into the semifinals of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships on a four-game win streak following an 86-85 win at McMurry University on Thursday evening.
The Gents (16-9) posted five players in double figures led by 21 from Travion Kirkendoll. James Sapp added 16 points as Caden Cheramie poured in 10 points. Kendall Demouchet and Brandon Campbell added 13 and 12 points respectively off the bench.
Centenary, which led by as many as 21 points in the second half, used a Kirkendoll game-winner with a second left to secure the victory. MMU erased the Maroon and White's double-digit advantage and grabbed its first lead since the 15:42 mark of the first half on a 3-pointer from Thierry Tchenko with seven ticks remaining.
The Gents connected on 51.8 percent from the field on the night, including a 46.2 clip from behind the arc.
Connor Robinson led the WarHawks with 34 points and grabbed a team-best 11 rebounds while Tchenk added 23 points on the evening. MMU finished the night shooting 55.8 percent from the field and was 7-for-14 from the 3-point line.
Centenary now turns its attention to the SCAC Championships on Saturday, Feb. 28 in Irving, Texas.
