MARSHALL, Texas - The Centenary men's basketball team dropped a 78-64 contest on Saturday afternoon at East Texas Baptist University to move the Gents to 1-3 on the season.
Caden Cheramie led the Maroon and White with 18 points. The Galliano, La., native's point total is the second most scored this season for Centenary behind Kendall Demouchet's 31 in the season opener.
Demouchet and James Sapp joined Cheramie in double figures. Demouchet added 15 points while Sapp provided 13 points along with a team-best eight rebounds.
Centenary trailed by 10 at half and worked the deficit down to three points midway through the second stanza, but the Tigers wouldn't relinquish its lead as they closed out the contest on an 8-0 run.
The Gents hit only 2-of-8 down the stretch with both coming from 3-point-land. Centenary shot a season-high 40.9 percent from behind the arc in the effort. The Maroon and White connected on 38.2 percent from the floor.
Jamil Samuel led ETBU with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Erby Thompson added 11 points with 10 coming from Justin Felicia. The Tigers were 43.9 from the field and 68.8 from the free-throw line.
Centenary returns to the floor on Saturday, Nov. 29 at the 2014 Crowne Plaza Thanksgiving Classic at Rhodes College. The Gents face the host Lynx at 3 p.m. in Memphis, Tenn.
