Strong second half leads Gents to second straight win

SHREVEPORT, La. - The Centenary men's basketball team picked up its third Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference win knocking off the University of Dallas 70-53 on Friday evening. The victory marks the second straight for the Gents (7-8, 3-2 SCAC) and third in the series with the Crusaders.

"It was a team effort tonight. I'm proud of our guys. Now we got to come back and do it again on Sunday," said head coach Adam Walsh. "We have to really say thanks to all the fans. We had a great crowd tonight, and that's something we really need. So we definitely want to give props to all of our fans for coming out tonight. They were huge for us in the second half, just being nice and loud. It's always a fun atmosphere when you get good fans here."

Kendall Demouchet paced the Maroon and White with 22 points in the outing marking the ninth of the double figure effort of the season. The point total is the third highest for the Lafayette, La., native on the campaign. Demouchet also tied James Sapp with a team-best nine rebounds.

Travion Kirkendoll added 14 points for the Gents as Brandon Campbell supplied 10 points marking his sixth double figure effort of the season. Kirkendoll has tallied nine double digit outings in his freshman season.

"Kendall had 22 points and nine rebounds to lead us tonight. The biggest thing tonight might have been Brandon Campbell, 10 points, nine assists, and no turnovers," stated Walsh. "That was a really good night for us. We need that from our guards, we need guards ready to go."

After sitting deadlock following the first 20 minutes of action, the Gents outscored the Blue and White 37-20 in the second stanza including a 17-2 run over the final six minutes of action to garner its fifth win in the series over Dallas.

Centenary shot 46.2 percent from the field including a 37.5 clip from behind the arc. The Gents connected on 76.2 percent from the free-throw line.

Mark Promberger led the Crusaders with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Michael Sarrat added 13 points with Blaine Blackburn posting 10 points in the loss.

Centenary returns to action on Sunday, Jan. 18 as it hosts Austin College. Tip is slated for 2 p.m.
