LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Centenary's James Sapp has been named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon. The weekly honor is the third consecutive for the sophomore this season.
Sapp averaged 24.5 points this weekend for the Gents including pouring in a career-high 32 points in the win at Southwestern University on Saturday evening. The career mark breaks his previous high of 24 set against Colorado College a week prior. He opened the weekend with a team-best 17 points at Texas Lutheran. He has scored in double figures in 11 consecutive outings and 12 total for the season.
The Shongaloo, La., native shot 53.1 percent from the field for the weekend and was 70 percent from the free-throw line. He also averaged 7.5 rebounds including nine against the Pirates.
Sapp is averaging a team-leading 15.8 points per game which ranks second in the SCAC and is fourth in the conference in boards with 6.5 per outing. He also ranks second in the league in field goal percentage with a 57.7 clip.
Centenary returns to action on Friday, Jan. 16 as it hosts the University of Dallas. Tip is slated for 8 p.m.
