ROCK HILL, S.C. - Darius Moose has been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week for an outstanding pair of games that helped Brevard earn its first win of the season.
The senior forward began his week with a 22-point effort in Brevard's three-point loss to Anderson. He followed up that performance by scoring 32 points, one shy of a career high, and pulling down a game-high nine rebounds in Brevard's 59-56 road victory at Lenoir-Rhyne.
For the week, Moose averaged 27 points and 6.5 rebounds per contest. His week also included five assists, a steal, and a pair of blocked shots. He knocked down 56.7 percent of his field goal attempts, including eight three-point baskets in 16 tries, and was a perfect 12-for-12 from the free throw line.
In his most impressive performance of the week, Moose was 11-for-17 (64.7 percent) from the floor against the Bears on Sunday. He was instrumental in keying a 16-4 Brevard run early in the second half that brought the Tornados back into contention, scoring 11 points during the stretch that allowed Brevard to turn an 11-point deficit into a one-point advantage. He also swatted away a shot during the span, helping to hold Lenoir-Rhyne without a field goal for 9:52.
With the clock ticking down under two minutes to play, he had a key assist on a Stevie Williams layup on the game's final lead change, and knocked down two free throws with 14 seconds remaining to give the Tornados a two-possession lead and effectively ice the game for Brevard.
On the season, Moose leads the conference with 22.3 points per game and 53 made field goals. He is also seventh in three-pointers made and 10th in rebounding.
Moose and the Tornados will take the week off for final exams before returning to action on Saturday in a conference matchup at Queens at 4:00 p.m.
