Men's Hoops announces 2014-15 schedule

SHREVEPORT, La. - Coming off one of the best season in program history, the Centenary men's basketball team has announced its 2014-15 season which features 12 contests inside the confines of the Gold Dome.

Centenary posted a 9-3 record last season on its home floor en route to finishing second in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference with an 18-10 mark and 10-4 in the conference

"Coming off of the late successes of this past season, we are excited about getting the 2014-15 season underway. As a program, our annual goal for on-court success is to win the conference tournament and we expect to be in contention again this season," said head coach Adam Walsh.

The Gents open the slate with a pair of Classics in early November in Portland, Ore., and Memphis, Tenn. Centenary begins the season against Lewis and Clark in the first contest of the Bon Appetit NWC Tipoff Classic and will close out the Classic versus Linnfield.

The second classic of the season pits the Maroon and White against Rhodes College and Illinois-Wesleyan in the Crowne Plaza Thanksgiving Classic.

The Gents open their home slate against one of three American Southwest Conference members, McMurry, on Nov. 20. The outing is the first of a home and home series with McMurry this season with the return trip to McMurry scheduled for Feb. 19 to close the regular season. A trip to East Texas Baptist follows the home lid lifter on Nov. 22

Three home contests in six days mark the month of December as the Gents face Hendrix on Dec. 7, the University of Texas at Dallas on Dec. 10 and Rust College on Dec. 12. A road outing at LSU-Shreveport marks the opening to the month.

"Our schedule this year presents the most challenging Division III slate we have ever faced, being highlighted by a very strong non-conference group of opponents. The two Classics in November will provide quite the barometer for where we are at the time of those games and where we would like to see ourselves in March," Walsh said. "Along with those four opponents, we are also excited about the competition we will find in former ASC foes UT-Dallas and McMurry, while we continue regional rivalries with ETBU and Hendrix."

Centenary opens SCAC play on Jan. 2 as it hosts Colorado College in the first of two affairs over the weekend with the Tigers. The contests are the first of five, conference contests at home in January along with the University of Dallas (Jan. 16), Austin College (Jan. 18) and Trinity University (Jan. 30) all visiting the Dome.

The Gents host Schreiner on Feb. 1 along with conference members Texas Lutheran (Feb. 13) and Southwestern (Feb. 15) making trips to Shreveport in the middle of the month.

The SCAC Championship Tournament is scheduled for Feb. 27-March 1.
