Sapp named SCAC Player of the Week for the fifth time

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - For the fifth time this season Centenary's James Sapp has been named Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week as announced by the conference office on Monday.

The Shongaloo, La., native averaged 21.0 points over the weekend, shooting 13-for-25 from the field and 16-for-22 from the free throw line. He added 14.5 rebounds per game, 3.5 assists per game, and 1.5 steals per game.

The sophomore began the weekend with 18 points, 14 rebound outing in an 87-84 loss to the University of Dallas. He shot 46.2% from the field and 6-of-7 from the free throw line. Sapp followed that up with a monstrous 24 point, 15 rebound game against Austin College. He shot 7-for-12 from the field and 10-of-15 from the free throw line. He also added two steals in the contest. The back-to-back doubles brings his season total to seven this season.

For the season, Sapp leads the league in points with 16.3 points per game and rebounds with 8.3 per contest. He is third in the league in field goal percentage at 53.3 and sixth in the league in steals at 24.

The program has claimed seven of the 12 weekly honors issued by the conference office this season with Travion Kirkendoll (Dec. 1) and Kendall Demouchet (Jan. 19).

Centenary returns to action on Friday, Feb. 13 against Texas Lutheran University. Tip is slated for 8 p.m.
