SEGUIN, Texas - The Centenary men's basketball team placed four players in double figures, but it wasn't enough the Gents (5-8, 1-2 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) fell 75-70 at Texas Lutheran on Friday evening. TLU improved to 7-6 and 2-0 in the SCAC.

James Sapp proved the catalyst for the Maroon and White with 17 points. The reigning SCAC Player of the Week has scored in double digits in 10 consecutive contests and 11 overall.

Kendall Demouchet and Caden Cheramie each added 15 points. Demouchet, who scored in double figures for the first time Dec. 12 against Rust, grabbed a team-best seven rebounds. Travion Kirkendoll supplied 11 points to round out the quartet - marking his fourth straight outing in double figures.

After a back and forth opening half, TLU's Garrett Wilkins drained a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give the Black and Gold a 35-32 edge at the half. The Dogs opened the second stanza with a 10-4 run and led by nine at the 16:53 mark.

The Maroon and White mounted a rally and with 8:40 left in the contest a pair of Sapp free throws gave the Gents its first lead of the half. TLU regained the lead on its following bucket and marched out to a seven-point advantage.

Centenary mounted a second rally in the stanza, cutting the deficit to three points on two different occasions, but the Gents couldn't overcome the Bulldogs lead.

The Maroon and White finished the night shooting 45.3 percent from the field including a 35.3 clip from behind the arc. The Gents connected on 72.7 percent from the charity stripe.

TLU shot 40 percent from the floor despite shooting 27.8 percent from the 3-point line. The Black and Gold connected on 72 percent from the free-throw line.

Sterling Holmes led TLU with 19 points while Donte McGee posted a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Jordan Kouremetis added 11 points with Thomas Verm posting 10 points.

Centenary returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 10 as they travel to Southwestern University. Tip is slated for 6 p.m.
