Defense spurs Gents to win over Hendrix

SHREVEPORT, La. - The Centenary men's basketball team forced a season-high 26 turnovers en route to a 93-63 win over Hendrix College. The victory opened a season-long, three-game homestand for the Gents, who improved to 3-5 on the season.

Centenary, which forced 22 turnovers in the opening half, capitalized on the Warrior miscues scoring 40 points.

"I'm proud of the effort in the first half and our defensive pressure. That was our game plan coming into tonight and see it executed makes us very proud of our effort. Forcing 22 turnovers in a half is exceptional," said head coach Adam Walsh. "We got defensive contributions from everyone in the first half and the second half took care of itself. We were able to play some guys and get some others guys some rest. We've got a tough stretch at home with two more games this week and we hope people will get excited and come out to watch."

Caden Cheramie led the Maroon and White with 17 - one off his season-high - while Justin Cueto and Travion Kirkendoll each added 15 points for the squad. Cueto's 15 points marked a career-high for the junior. James Sapp rounded out the Gents double figure producers with 14 points.

Centenary posted season-best shooting percentages in the win as they connected on 48.6 percent from the floor, 42.9 from behind the arc and knocked down 94.1 percent from the charity stripe (16-of-17).

The Maroon and White received production from its bench as Kirkdendoll and Sapp led a scoring charge that accounted for 53 points in the outing.

Centenary pulled down a 37 rebounds in the affair, led by eight from Sapp. The mark is the third most this season for the Gents, but marked the first contest this season the Maroon and White have out-rebounded an opponent as Hendrix grabbed 35 boards.
