Demouchet scores career-high; Gents nipped at the buzzer

PORTLAND,Ore.- A career-high from Kendall Demouchet wasn't enough as the Centenary men's basketball team was edged 71-69 at the buzzer by Lewis andClarkUniversityon Saturday evening.

Demouchet led the Gents with 31 points and grabbed seven rebounds in the season opening effort. James Sapp led the Maroon and White with eight boards in the contest.

Centenary led by as many as 12 points in the second half, but the Pioneers chipped way at the lead and with 2:28 remaining in the contest tied the outing at 62-all. The two teams exchanged the lead, but with just over a minute to play Jason Luhnow's 3-pointer gave LC its first lead since the 3:51 mark of the opening stanza.

Brooks Pawsat knotted the contest at 67-all with 55 seconds left. After Cannen Roberson placed the Pioneers back in front 14 ticks later, Demouchet chimed in his final points to once again tie the contest for the fourth time in the last two minutes at 69.

Following a missed trey by Luhnow with three seconds left, Roberson collected the offensive rebound - his team-high 12th of the game - and placed the put back in as time expired.

Luhnow led Lewis and Clark with 25 points in the decision.

Centenary finished the night shooting 46 percent from the floor while the Pioneers connected on just shy of 33 percent from the field.

The Gents return to action on Sunday, Nov. 16 as they close out the NWC Classic against Linfield. Tip is slated for 7 p.m. central.
