WMYA to televise two men?s, one women?s basketball game in 2015

BREVARD, N.C. - Director of Athletics Juan Mascaro has announced the addition of three televised games to the Brevard College basketball schedules for the 2014-2015 season.

Brevard's home doubleheader against Lenoir-Rhyne on January 31 will be shown on WMYA My40, the same network responsible for televising Brevard's football contests with Lenoir-Rhyne and Wingate this season. Tipoff for the women's game will take place at 2:00 p.m. with the men's game slated for 4:00.

Additionally, WMYA will televise the men's contest with Lincoln Memorial on Wednesday, February 18 at 7:00 p.m. The Railsplitters are ranked No. 6 in the latest Division II coaches' poll and currently sport an 11-0 record. The game will immediately precede WMYA's broadcast of North Carolina and Duke's matchup from Durham at 9:00 p.m.

"We're excited to continue our partnership with WMYA My40 and to bring Brevard athletic events into people's homes across western North Carolina and upstate South Carolina," said Mascaro. "This is such a tremendous opportunity to showcase our basketball teams. Ingles Markets has really worked hard to make this happen from a sponsorship standpoint, and we're so thankful for their dedication in helping us gain exposure."

The Lenoir-Rhyne contests will mark the second time that each of Brevard's basketball teams have played in televised games. The women defeated Tusculum by a score of 91-68 while the men scored a 101-90 win over the Pioneers on January 8, 2014 in both teams' first-ever television appearance.

The women's game with Lincoln Memorial on February 18 has been moved to a 4:30 p.m. tipoff to accommodate the broadcast for the men's game and give crews an extra half hour between games to prepare. Strong viewership numbers from the Tornados' televised football contests paired with the 9:00 p.m. start time for the rivalry game in Durham have the Tornados anticipating a large audience for the game with the sixth-ranked Railsplitters.

WMYA has televised Brevard sporting events a total of four times entering this basketball season. In addition to last year's basketball games against Tusculum and this year's football games with Lenoir-Rhyne and Wingate, the network also broadcasted the Tornados' 2013 football contest with Catawba in the school's first-ever sporting event to appear on a television network.

WMYA My40 is available on over-the-air channels 40.1 and 13.2, as well as on channel 110 for Comporium subscribers in Brevard.
