Gents Basketball Adds 16 for 2018-19 Season

SHREVEPORT, La. – Centenary Basketball kicks off the 2018-19 season Saturday afternoon, November 10, as the Ladies and Gents host Hardin-Simmons for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.

 

 

The Gents have 16 newcomers for the 2018-19 season.

Mike Denham

Chicago, Ill. / Democracy Prep-Agassi Campus

 

Denham played forward for head coach Trevor Diggs at Democracy Prep in Las Vegas, Nevada. He helped the Blue Knights win the 2017-18 conference, league, and the Nevada 2A Division State Championship. Individually, he was named All-Conference three times and All-State Honorable Mention twice. Academically, Denham was named to the Honor Roll.

Mike is the son of Jameela Taylor and Michael Denham and has three sisters, Alexia and Rosie Denham and Ieesha Abdul-Rahman. At Centenary, he is majoring in business management.

Aric Garza

Post, Texas / Post HS

 

Garza played point guard for head coach Billy Garza at Post High School. With the Antelopes, he made three All-Star games while also being named Co-MVP in basketball. Other sports Garza participated in include football, tennis, golf, and track and field. Garza was named Academic All-State four years in a row and had 21 hours of college credit at graduation.

Aric is the son of Billy and Renea Garza and has one brother, Austin. At Centenary, majoring in business administration.

Ezri Gomez

Chihuahua, Mexico / Lydia Patterson Institute

 

Gomez played center for head coach Gerardo Yuen at the Lydia Patterson Institute and was named Varsity MVP in both 2017 and 2018 for the Lions.

Ezri is the parents are Bael Gomez and Raquel Montes and has one brother, Bequer Gomez. At Centenary, he is majoring in mathematics.

Matthew Henton

Alexandria, La. / Loreauville HS

 

Henton played the point for head coach Paul Reed at Loreauville High School. He was named Best of the Teche All-District. Academically, Henton won the Math Award.

Matthew is the son of Mark and Lisa Henton and Has three siblings: Lia, MJ, and John. At Centenary, he is majoring in accounting.

Xavier Johnson

Baker, La. / Baker HS

 

Johnson played small and power forward and center for James Holmes, Charles Harris, and Alex Johnson for the Baker High School Buffaloes. He made the Honor Roll and Principal's List.

Xavier is the son of Tijiwanba Johnson and has two siblings, Jada Haynes and Dexter Dennis. At Centenary, he is majoring in engineering.

Josh Lacy

Cibolo, Texas / Byron P. Steele HS

 

Lacy played point guard for head coach Lonny Hubbard at Byron P. Steele HS. He helped the Knights win a Regional Championship and finish 32-3. Lacy also received NSHSS Honors.

Josh is the son of William Lacy, Jr. and has one brother, William Lacy III. At Centenary, he is majoring in communications.

Kile Mingo

Mingo played both guard positions for head coach Chad Suleamanji at Cy-Fair High School. He was named Honorable Mention All-District for the Bobcats. Mingo also received Academic All-District Honors.

Kile is the son of Lashell Schrock and has one sister, Kindra. At Centenary, he is majoring in business and engineering.

Jimmie Pittman

Baton Rouge, La. / St. Amant HS

 

Pittman played point guard for head coach Travis Uzee at St. Amant High School. He was named All-District for the Gators. Pittman also received the 3.5 or better Academic Award.

Jimmie is the son of Jimmie and Mindy Pittman and has one brother, Jordan. At Centenary, he is majoring in engineering.

Ty Prince

Thorndale, Texas / Thorndale HS

 

Prince played all five positions for head coach John Kovar at Thorndale High School. He was named to the All-State and All-Region Team twice for the Bulldogs. Prince also made an All-Star game.

Ty is the son of Ray Prince and is undecided upon an academic major.

Ricky Ray

Rosenberg, Texas / B.F. Terry HS

 

Ray played both guard positions for head coach Michael Jackson at B.F. Terry High School. Individually, he received multiple accolades, including Honorable Mention, Second Team All-District, First Team All-Tournament, and two-time First Team All-District. Academically, Ray was named to the All-Academic Team Three Times.

Ricky is the son of Ricky Jr. and Tammy Ray. He is majoring in business management.

Tykeem Singleton

Singleton played shooting guard and small forward for head coach Zack Meyers at Fossil Ridge High School.

Tykeem is the son of Kimberly and Rodney Searcy and has one sister, Tykie Singleton. At Centenary, he is majoring in business.

Dakota Smith

Homer, La. / Southern-Shreveport

 

Smith played the 2017-18 season for Southern University-Shreveport. In high school, played power forward and center for head coach Jasper Edwards at Summerfield High School. He helped the Rebels win a State Championship in 2016 and finish as State Runner-up in 2017.

Dakota is the son of Jacqueline Malone and Cedric Smith and has four sisters, Lakota, Cedderika, Ashley, and Kerri and one brother, Cord. At Centenary, he is majoring in business.

Gavin Thomas

Thomas played guard for the Stony Point High School Tigers.

Gavin is the son of Stacy Thomas and has one brother, Cedric. At Centenary, he is majoring in business.

Jonas Varela

Varela played point guard for head coach Marc Patton and was named to the District 22-6A Second Team his senior year for the Mavericks. He was also selected a Rotary Club Member.

Jonas was the son of Joe and Cynthia Varela and has two brothers, Josh and Marc. At Centenary, he is majoring in business.

Prentis Washington

Washington played shooting guard for Summerfield High School and helped the Rebels win a championship and was named MVP.

Prentis is the son of Prentis and Sheila Washington and has one sister, Shaniqua. At Centenary, he is majoring in business.

Hayden Weber

Haslet, Texas / Northwest HS

 

Weber played both forward positions for head coach Michael Hatch at Northwest High School. He helped the Texans finish Third at the 5A State Championships.

Hayden is the son of Jason and Carolyn Weber and has one brother, Joshua. At Centenary, he is majoring in business.
