SAN ANTONIO – Down by nine with three minutes left, the Gents were able to cut the deficit to a single possession and had the ball late with a chance to tie or win, but the Tigers forced a turnover and ran out the clock as Centenary (9-11, 6-5 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) fell to Trinity (5-17, 5-8 SCAC) 75-73 Saturday night, February 2.

For the game, Centenary could not overcome Trinity's 41-28 edge in rebounding and the Tigers shooting 22 free throws to the Gents' eight.

While Centenary stayed close the entire second half, including tying the game at 62, the Gents could never take the lead in the period. Down 71-62, senior Treylan Matthews made a layup. Matthews then hit a pair from the line and then a three after a Trinity miscue. Down two after two junior Cedric Harris free throws with 25 seconds left, Centenary fouled Trinity. While the Tigers missed both free throws, Centenary lost the ball with a chance to tie or take the lead in the final seconds.

Harris led the Gents with 22 points and 11 boards – recording his second double-double of the season. Matthews added 19 points and two blocks.

Centenary trailed 20-13 before going on a 12-0 run, holding Trinity scoreless for more than four minutes. All 12 points came on threes: two by freshman Ty Prince and one each by Harris and freshman Kile Mingo. After five ties the rest of the half, Trinity carried a 41-39 lead into the intermission.

Tied at 62 with five minutes left, Trinity scored nine unanswered. Jordan Lippman hit a pair from the line and Carter Laramore cleared the offensive glass for a putback layup. Lippman hit a pair from the line and added a three as Trinity built its largest lead of the game.

Danny Rivara led Trinity with 17 points off the bench while Lippman contributed 14.

Centenary returns to action Tuesday night as it takes on Dallas. Tip-off in Irving, Texas, is set for 7:30 p.m.
