14 Event Wins Leads to Centenary Swimming Sweep on Senior Day

SHREVEPORT, La. – The Ladies and Gents Swimming teams combined for 14 event wins to send out four Gents senior with a dual victory as Centenary beat Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Austin College Saturday afternoon, January 12.

The Ladies, who picked up a rare tie against the 'Roos last year, won 96-88. The Gents knocked off Austin College 101-89.

Senior Blake Smith, in his final individual race in the Centenary pool, won the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:13.85. That completed a Centenary sweep in the event, as freshman Lindsay Strohm won the women's race in 5:42.31. Smith also teamed up with freshmen Miguel Vasquez and Mitchell Lulich and junior Eddie Dyess for a victory in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:44.02.

Vasquez and Lulich proved to be the lone 3-time winners for the Gents against Austin College. Besides the 400 medley relay win, the duo teamed up with Dyess and sophomore Chris Reese for a win in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:28.30. For their individual wins, Lulich clocked in with a time of 2:10.78 for the victory in the 200 IM, while Vasquez won the 100 butterfly with a season best 52.87.

The Ladies also took the 400 medley and 400 free relays. The quartet of juniors Ellen Atkinson and Jessi Jordan with freshmen Margot Frost and Madelyn Frederick won the medley relay. It was an all freshmen team in the 400 free relay as Briana Serret, Sarah Harrison, Kaylin Swoboda, and Strohm touched the wall in 3:58.68.

Centenary also swept the 1000 freestyle events. Harrison won for the Ladies with a time of 11:56.38, while Reese claimed the title for the Gents in 11:07.93.

In other wins for the Ladies, Jordan took the 200 IM with a time of 2:25.64. Serret claimed the 100 butterfly title in a season best 1:01.19. Frost won the 100 backstroke title, knocking eight tenths off her best time and touching the wall in 1:08.75.

Swoboda won in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:12.60.

The meet concludes the regular season for Centenary Swimming. The Ladies and Gents are back in action February 13-16 in San Antonio, Texas.
