Gents Claim 200 Freestyle Relay Championship to Lead Centenary Swimming on Day 2 at SCAC Championships

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Gents Claimed a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference event title for the first time in five years while numerous Ladies and Gents moved into the record book with top-10 program times to pace Centenary on day two of the SCAC Championships on Thursday, February 14.

Both the Ladies (160 points) and Gents (173 points) rank fourth at the 2019 SCAC Championships. Trinity leads the women's championship, while Southwestern maintains a slim lead over Trinity on the men's side.

The quartet of freshmen Miguel Vasquez and Mitchel Lulich with junior Eddie Dyess and senior Blake Smith won the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:25.75. Vasquez opening-leg split of 21.10 is the eighth fastest 50 freestyle time in program history.

 

The Ladies 200 freestyle relay team of freshmen Brianna Serret, Kaylin Swoboda, Lindsay Strohm, and Madelyn Frederick missed out on All-Conference recognition by only 0.03 seconds, touching the wall fourth in 1:40.19.

Strohm finished 11th in the finals of the 500 freestyle, but her time of 5:24.20 in the pre-lims was the 10th fastest time in the event in Ladies Swimming history. Swoboda claimed fourth in the 200 IM with a time of 2:12.52, the eighth fastest time in school history.

Frederick took seventh in the 50 freestyle, but her time of 25.01 in the pre-lims was the seventh-fastest time in school history. On the Gents side of the fastest event in swimming, Smith took fourth. However, his time of 21.15 in the pre-lims was the ninth fastest time in school history.

The Ladies and Gents return to the pool Friday, February 15, at 10:30 a.m. On day three, finals will be contested in the 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke, and the 400 medley relay.
