Nine Events Wins Pace Ladies and Gents Swimming against Southwestern

SHREVEPORT, La. – The Ladies and Gents swimming teams claimed nine event wins while freshman Miguel Vasquez etched his name in another event in the Gents record book as Centenary fell to Southwestern Saturday afternoon, November 10.

The Ladies fell to the Pirates, 130-110, while the Gents lost 173.5-80.5.

Vasquez won both individual events swam and also entered the Gents all-time performance list in the 50 backstroke. Swimming the backstroke leg of the 200 medley relay, Vasquez touched the wall in 24.33. That mark is the fastest time in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference this season, the third fastest in program history, and the 27th best time in the country this season. Vasquez and freshmen Tripp Montgomery and Mitchell Lulich with senior Blake Smith finished second in the event with a time of 1:41.84.

In individual events, Vasquez won both the 100 backstroke and 200 IM with times of 52.80 and 2:02.36, respectively. The backstroke time was the fastest in the SCAC and 43rd in the country this season. It also improved his season best, moving Vasquez into a tie for eighth in program history. The IM mark is the third fastest in the conference this season.

A pair of Ladies won both individual events they swam. Freshman Kaylin Swoboda took the 100 breaststroke (1:13.42) and 200 IM (2:22.56). Junior Jessi Jordan finished runner-up in the 200 IM with a time of 2:25.53 as Swoboda and Jordan swam the fifth and sixth fastest times, respectively, in the conference this season.

Freshmen Lindsay Strohm and Sarah Harrison went 1-2 in the 200 freestyle with a times of 2:07.78 and 2:08.47. Strohm also claimed the 500 freestyle title with a time of 5:42.03.

Also for the Ladies, freshman Brianna Serret turned in a pair of the fastest times in the SCAC this season. She touched the wall in 1:02.97 in the 100 backstroke, the fourth fastest time in the conference this season. Serret finished the 50-backstroke leg of the 200 medley relay in 29.45, the second best time in the SCAC this season. Serret, Jordan, Swoboda, and freshman Madelyn Frederick finished second in the relay with a time of 1:58.32.

Finally, Smith won the 50 butterfly in 24.90, the fastest in the conference and 24th in the nation this season. Junior Ellen Atkinson won the 50 backstroke in a time of 32.82, the sixth best in the SCAC this season.

Centenary Swimming closes out 2018 at the Hendrix Invite December 1.
