SHREVEPORT, La. – It took more than two minutes to open up the scoring, but senior Jasmine Morris made a jumper and the Ladies never trailed as Centenary (8-15, 6-8 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) captured its third-straight win by knocking off Johnson & Wales (2-19, 1-4 SCAC) 63-44 Saturday night, February 9.

Johnson & Wales cut the deficit to six in the fourth quarter, but senior Savanah Doty hit her 198th career triple with 7:33 remaining to break the Centenary Ladies Basketball record. The three jumpstarted an 18-2 run as Centenary opened up a 22-point lead shortly before the end of the game. Sophomore Bre Frierson completed a three-point play and then added a layup to give Centenary a double-digit lead.

After Johnson & Wales made a pair from the charity stripe, Morris made a layup and split from the line. Sophomore Haylee Washington and junior Deunya Small made layups before three split trips to the line for Centenary ballooned the lead to 22. Katey Guzman beat the buzzer with a three for the Wildcats for the final 19-point margin.

Morris finished her Gold Dome career with 17 points on 7-for-12 shooting. Frierson came off the bench for 16 points while Washington turned in a solid game with eight points, eight rebounds, four blocks, and two steals. Small scored eight points and grabbed 11 rebounds.

As a team, Centenary used a 44-28 rebounding edge and a 38-14 advantage in points in the paint.

Shorthanded Johnson & Wales was led by Brianna Bailey with 16 points. Guzman added 12 points while Salma Oros added 10.

Centenary returns to action next Friday, February 15, when it travels to Southwestern. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.
