SHREVEPORT, La. – The Gents rallied from an early eight-point deficit to take the lead; however, they could not overcome a 4-for-15 mark from the charity stripe as Centenary (1-1) fell to Louisiana College (1-1) 61-58 Thursday night, November 15.

Down 51-43 with 5:20 left, Centenary used a 9-2 run to pull within one. Freshman Ty Prince hit a jumper before freshman Ricky Ray pulled down a defensive board and found classmate Kile Mingo for the three. Louisiana College answered with a layup, but layups from seniors Kaharri Carter and Treylan Matthews cut the deficit to one.

The Wildcats extended the lead with a triple, but Matthews answered back with a transition three to cut the deficit to one with 2:14 left. Devon Washington added a layup for the visitors, but another Matthews three tied the game with less than a minute left.

Louisiana College took the lead on Lashard Powell's layup with 30 seconds left. Centenary came down the court, but threw a turnover. Washington split from the line to put the visitors up three and Matthews missed a three. K.D. Wallace grabbed the defensive board and ran out the clock.

Carter recorded the double-double with 12 points and 11 boards. Prince added 12 points and 10 boards, while Ray came off the bench for six assists and three steals.

Centenary failed to score in the first six minutes of the game and trailed 8-0 before Prince scored seven straight. He started off with a three and a layup. A tip-in after his own miss brought the home team within one. Carter and Prince both split from the charity stripe to put Centenary in the lead. Centenary led by as much as five in the first half, but the teams fought to a 26-26 tie at intermission.

Washington led Louisiana College with 14 points and eight rebounds.

Centenary returns to action Saturday, November 17, for the annual Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference/Southern Athletic Association Classic. The Gents take on host Hendrix at 7 p.m.
