SHREVEPORT, La. – Coming into the contest Sunday afternoon (September 9), the Gents and Mountaineers have gone to overtime in five of the last eight meetings. Why would Sunday be any different?

But unlike those five overtime games, this game was the first to end in a tie as Centenary (1-2-1, 0-1-1 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) drew a scoreless tie against Schreiner (1-2-1, 0-0-1 SCAC) at CE Byrd High School.

Neither team managed a shot on target in the first half, but the Gents took control of the game early in the second half. In the 50th minute, sophomore Gin Pau put the first shot on target of the game, but it was saved by the Schreiner defense. A corner kick in the 51st minute yielded a senior Nick Hammond shot on goal, but again the shot was saved. Pau, Hammond, and junior Scott Halper followed with shots on goal as Centenary quickly moved ahead on shots, 5-4.

Schreiner managed a shot on goal in the first overtime and Centenary in the second, but neither team found the back of the net.

Pau, Hammond, and Halper all led Centenary with two shots on goal each. Nic Blake led the Mountaineers with five total shots, two of which were on target.

Centenary freshman goalkeeper Sami Borchalli saved all seven shots faced for his first collegiate shutout. Schreiner saved all seven shots faced, including six by goalkeeper Brandon Anselmi.

The Gents conclude their three-game home stand Tuesday, September 11, when they host Dallas. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
