Two School Records, Four All-Conference Honorees Pace Centenary on Penultimate Day

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Two school records, three individual and a relay All-Conference nod, and eight other top-10 swims in Ladies and Gents history paced Centenary on the penultimate day at the 2019 Southern Athletic Conference Swimming Championships Friday, February 15.

Freshman Kaylin Swoboda broke the record in the 100 breaststroke by more than a second in the pre-lims Friday morning. She followed that up in the finals Friday night with an even faster time (1:05.99) to finish second in the event and earn All-Conference accolades. Swaboda also turned in the seventh fastest time in Ladies history with her 1:00.48 in the 100 backstroke split of the Ladies 400 medley relay.

Swoboda's school record capped a great 100 breaststroke for the Ladies. Freshman Sarah Harrison finished in a time of 1:09.83 in the pre-lims, the seventh fastest time in school history. Freshman Madelyn Frederick finished with the eighth-fastest time with a 1:10.88.

Freshman Miguel Vasquez became the first Gent to break 51 seconds in the 100 back, touching the wall in 50.66 to earn All-Conference accolades by finishing second. Vasquez (51.98) and senior Blake Smith (52.24) also turned in the ninth and 10th fastest time in the 100 butterfly.

The final All-Conference honoree for the Ladies was freshman Brianna Serret in the 100 backstroke. She touched the wall in 59.66 to finish third – the fifth-fastest time in school history. Her pre-lim time of 58.97 in the 100 butterfly in the seventh-fastest on the all-time list.

Finally, freshman Mitchel Lulich's pre-lim time of 58.78 in the 100 breaststroke was the third fastest mark in Gents Swimming history.

To close out the night, the Gents 400 medley relay team of Vasquez, Lulich, Smith, and junior Eddie Dyess picked up All-Conference honors by finishing third with a time of 3:30.00.

Centenary closes out the SCAC Championships Saturday, February 16. Contested events include the 1650 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, and 400 freestyle relay. Pre-lims start at 10:30 a.m., while finals will be contested beginning at 6 p.m.
