Rebound Goal Sinks Ladies Soccer against Southwestern

SHREVEPORT, La. – The Ladies were able to control the tempo early, but they could not find the back of the net before the Pirates scored in the second half as Centenary (8-4, 5-4 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) fell to Southwestern (6-4, 4-2 SCAC) 1-0 Friday night, October 5.

Sophomore Pamela Fonseca and freshman Itzel Sigaran led the Ladies with a pair of shots on target,

Southwestern scored its loan goal of the game in the 62nd minute when Emily Schmalstieg's shot was saved. However, Centenary freshman goalie Avery Sanderson could not control the ball and Annie Ewton scored off the rebound for her second goal of the season.

Sanderson stopped 8-of-9 shots faced in goal, while Mary Cardone for the Pirates stopped all six shots faced.

Centenary returns to action Sunday, October 7, for its final home SCAC contest of the season against #17 Trinity. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
