SHREVEPORT, La. – Centenary Softball, under the direction of fourth-year head coach Mark Suire, released its 2019 schedule Friday, November 30. The 2019 slate includes 20 home games and six contests against 2018 NCAA Tournament teams.
Centenary will also play host to the 2019 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament April 26-28.
"The 2019 softball schedule includes a highly competitive non-conference slate that will prepare us for the rigors of conference play," said Coach Suire. "We have included a good mix of familiar regional opponents along with the addition of quality opponents outside the region. I believe the schedule we have put together will benefit our efforts to continue to build a successful program, and we look forward to the challenges it offers."
For the second straight year, the Ladies begin the season against perennial NCAA Tournament participant East Texas Baptist. The Ladies host the Tigers for a single game February 4, making the return trip to Marshall, Texas, March 26. Centenary hosts Millsaps for a doubleheader February 10 before travelling north on I-49 to take on Texas A&M Texarkana in a pair of games February 16.
The Ladies close out February with two games against both Hendrix and Westminster (Missouri) at the Hendrix College Spring Fling on the 23rd and 24th.
Centenary kicks off March with a doubleheader at home against SUNY Oneonta March 4. The Ladies will take on Louisiana College in a home-and-home, beginning with a contest in Shreveport March 5. The Ladies make the return trip to Pineville March 13.
In between the games against Louisiana College, the Ladies host Hendrix for a doubleheader March 9.
Centenary begins conference play with a four-game series at home against Austin College March 16-17. After hitting the road for a four-game set at Dallas March 23-24, and a midweek game at East Texas Baptist, the Ladies close out the month in Shreveport with four games against Southwestern.
Centenary begins April with eight games on the road: four at Schreiner (fifth and sixth) and four at Trinity (12th-13th). The Ladies close out the regular season with four contests against 2018 NCAA Tournament participant Texas Lutheran April 18-19 in Shreveport.
The Ladies are coming off a 2018 campaign where they finished 20-22 overall and 8-11 in SCAC play. Centenary finished fourth in the conference regular season but finished third in the conference tournament for the second time in three seasons.
