SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Ladies were able to dominate statistically, but an unlucky bounce led to a centering pass and goal by the Mountaineers early in the second overtime as Centenary (9-6) saw its season come to a close at the hands of Schreiner (5-9-3) 1-0 in double overtime in the first quarterfinal of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament Friday, November 2.

The Ladies had the advantage in regulation but could not finish opportunities. Centenary recorded the first shot on goal in the 13th minute when junior Kyra Montes weaved her way into the box and struck an arcing shot far post, but Schreiner goalie Jordin Toso grabbed the save. The Mountaineers looked like it would have two great opportunities to score in the first half, but the Mountaineers were called for offside both time.

In the second half, the Ladies were awarded a free kick right outside the box in the 90th minute. Centenary hit the wall and the clock ran out to send the contest to overtime.

Centenary led in regulation 6-2 in shots on target and 7-1 in corners.

However, the Mountaineers scored early in the second overtime to end the game. An attempted clear allowed Kayla Mullen space right in front of the Schreiner bench. She dribbled the ball to the box and hitting a centering pass. Marissa Wheeler scored near post to end the game.

Sophomore Maggie Pitcher grabbed three saves on four shots faced for Centenary, while Toso stopped all six shots she saw.

This ends the 2018 season for Ladies Soccer, who finished with the best winning percentage (.600) in the NCAA Division III era for a season.
