GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Ladies will need a win Sunday to guarantee a spot in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament as Centenary (8-16, 6-9 SCAC) lost at Southwestern (11-13, 10-5 SCAC) Friday night, February 15.

The Ladies led by as much as three at 21-18 after a three from senior Savanah Doty with 6:42 left in the second quarter. However, eight unanswered gave the Pirates the lead for good.

Centenary trailed by 17 in the third quarter, but 10 unanswered cut the deficit to seven. Sophomore Ethany Cosby picked up a steal and made a fastbreak layup. After another Southwestern turnover, sophomore Haylee Washington made a layup.

Neither team made a basket for nearly two minutes before sophomore Bre Frierson made a layup while being fouled. She made the ensuing free throw to bring the deficit back to 10. A Doty three capped the spurt for the Ladies.

Frierson led Centenary with 17 points while Doty chipped in with 12.

Facing a three-point deficit in the second, Southwestern scored eight straight to take the lead for good. Tori Carraway made a layup and Zhazze Brown made a pair from the charity stripe. Chloe Drum made a layup and Carraway made a layup as Southwestern led 26-21 with 4:35 left in the second quarter.

Carraway came off the bench to lead Southwestern with 20 points.

Centenary needs a win to guarantee the sixth seed in the upcoming SCAC Tournament on Sunday, February 17, against Texas Lutheran. If the Ladies fall to the Bulldogs, Schreiner and Centenary will be involved in a coin flip for the final spot in the tournament.
